HIGH school students from Barnoldswick are giving cancer a run for its money.

Pupils from the West Craven High School showed their community spirit by helping with the annual Barnoldswick Santa Fun Run, which was held in December.

The students presented a cheque for £359.23 to Barnoldswick and Earby Bosom Friends, taking the amount raised for the cancer support charity from the fun run to over £7,500.

Charity founder Mary Brennan, her husband Gus Brennan and fun run event manager Sharon Hurst visited the school to thank the students for their hard work and commitment to the annual event, and presented them with letters and certificates of thanks.

Students James Cruise-Brown, Jody Holden, Erin Mason, Callum West, Lucy Whipp, Brook Phipps, Annie Vickers and Emily Bevan visited local primary school in October and November promoting the festive family event to youngsters from four to 11 years old.

They also prepared and presented special assembles to raise awareness of Bosom Friends.

Throughout the weekend of December 4, James, Jody, Erin, Callum and Lucy gave up their time to help with administration of the event, including handing out Santa suits to runners, and later serving refreshments on the town square.

In addition Jody helped organise the West Craven Christmas carol concert, arranging a performance by the Arden Angels Choir, of which she is a member. The students organised the raffle and cake stall, with all funds raised donated to Bosom Friends.

Sharon Hurst also expressed her thanks to West Craven headteacher Craig Baker for being allowed to use the school as a base for the fun run.
