A man has been found guilty this afternoon of the murder of a 15-month-old baby.

Darren William Newton, of Warwick Drive, was convicted following a trial at Manchester Crown Court.

The 31-year-old was also found guilty of one child cruelty charge but cleared of another.

At an earlier court hearing he pleaded guilty to 12 charges of cruelty against Charlie Victor Rossi Hunt.

Those charges related to video clips filmed by Newton on his mobile phone.

One was entitled “shiverin no water 5-11-09” and another charge is regarding a video clip “Happy Slap”.

Other phrases listed in the charges include “close up Charlie”, “2 mins of pain”, “cryin on livinroom floor” and “asleep in cot!”.

Charlie died on November 19 last year after being admitted to Airedale Hospital near Skipton.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the baby died from significant head injuries.
