Richard Whiteley Theatre: Next Thursday and Friday, Giggleswick Junior School will perform the musical Porridge at 7pm. Join private detective Jack Spratt as he tries to unravel the mysteries of the crimewave that has hit Happy Valley. Next Saturday, March 22, Settle Orchestra will perform a programme which includes works by Weber, Greig, Schumann and Tomlinson. Community Cinema will mark the 70th anniversary of one of the most audacious events of World War Two with a showing of The Great Escape on Sunday, March 30. Training and Trenches: The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority is launching its Training and Trenches project on April 10 at 7pm in the Richard Whiteley Theatre. The project is a community investigation into the archaeological legacy of World War One in Settle region. All are welcome.

Primary school: Pupils in class 1 produced their first parents’ newsletter. KS2 children have continued to follow the swimming awards scheme introduced by Settle Swimming Pool. Congratulations to Caitie Birkett-Bentley, who took part in the North West Area Accordion Championships where she was placed second in two of her classes and first for the 11 and under solo. Congratulations also go to the KS2 pupils who took part in the Giggleswick Gallop cross country event. Well done to Jimmy who came second out of all the 44 year three pupils, Edie who came joint first out of the eight year four girls and to the overall year four team winners. World Book Day saw some wonderful costumes and pupils worked well together on the book-related activities.
