Prayer Day: Many thanks go to all who attended the recent Women’s World Day of Prayer service at St Alkelda’s Church. The service was part of a wave of prayer for Egypt, with events taking place around the globe. The speaker was Canon Huw Thomas, formerly of Cairo Cathedral.
Parish council: Members heard that 12 local incidents had been reported to the police during February. Once again, the police are urging the public to be vigilant and to ring if they see anything suspicious. The council received a decision on two planning applications – the residential development for 12 houses on land adjacent to Raines Road was refused and the removal of one lime tree on Middle Fellings of Harrison Playing Fields was granted. The contractor has been notified and the work will commence soon. The riverside path is increasingly littered and this is a responsibility of all people who use the path. People are urged to use the waste bins provided by Settle College. The council is making inquiries about the placement of a waste bin near the bench at the Memorial Bridge. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 8 at 7.30pm in the parish rooms.
