A GAGGLE of four Canadian geese have been making a nuisance of themselves in Earby.

Local man David Hartley spent a day early last week gathering up the geese at various places around the town.

"They were in or near the Co-op and on the main road as well," said Mr Hartley, who raises a number of different animals at his property off School Lane.

"Geese are wild birds and are not a tame species, but these geese seemed incredibly tame," said Mr Hartley, who thinks that the geese were being raised by someone.

"The first time I herded them up, I put them in the field with my llama," he said. "But they flew off and they were all over Earby.

"They kept landing in roads and not in grass fields - they liked the tarmac and seemed to associate it with food.

"When I was rounding them up, they would rush up to me for food. I could stroke them - that's the odd thing about it.

"I think they've grown up with humans, and I'd like to see them re-united with whoever had them before."

After herding them up from three different places around the town, Mr Hartley said he had to cut their wings.

"They'll grow back in six weeks," said Mr Hartley, who added that geese were "mucking in" with the domestic geese he keeps.

If anyone knows where the geese might be from, they should ring Mr Hartley on 01282 842617.
