A SUCCESSFUL pop-up community cafe on a Skipton estate could pave the way for a permanent service fort residents.

South Skipton Project ran Scoff Café at Greatwood and Horseclose Community Centre during the half-term break. It served hot breakfast sandwiches, jacket potatoes, and pie and peas and was very popular with residents.

Pat Haygarth, from the local residents' association, said: “It was great to have a café on the estate where residents could meet up, have a coffee and a chat, without having to go all the way into Skipton. It is a great way of getting the community together and I hope that we can get a permanent café up and running soon.”

South Skipton Project is a community initiative which is supported by Craven District Council, Yorkshire Housing, Sanctuary Housing, Jephson Housing, North Yorkshire County Council, Skipton Town Council and North Yorkshire Police.

Scoff Café will run each Wednesday afternoon at the Greatwood and Horseclose Community Centre until the end of November, and if it is a success the café team will work together to prepare a business plan for a permanent café on the estate.

Councillor Carl Lis, the district council's lead member for working with communities, said: “Thank you to all the volunteers who helped run Scoff’s Café during half-term. Providing residents with an informal meeting place is really important. It promotes a sense of community among the residents.”
