Parish walk: A parish walk was held on Saturday. Thirty-five walkers turned out for what was an excellent walk, with coffee and cake at Keasden Head Farm and mulled wine at a local shooting box. The next walk will be on Saturday, February 21, meeting at Austwick Church at 9.30am.

Parish council: The parish council will meet on Monday, January 19, at 8pm in the parish hall and will consider plans for the change of use of agricultural land to form a tennis court on the field adjacent to Austwick Tennis Club.

Gun Club: Members of Penyghent Gun Club held a pre-Christmas shoot at Horton Quarry. The winner of the Andrew Chapman Memorial Trophy was K Humphrey with 28 kills. In joint second position were E Sharpe and R Carr and in third position was S Bamber. A pool shoot was won by R Bold. The first shoot of the New Year was held at Cragg Hill Farm. R Carr was the winner with 20 kills, second was P Fox and third was E Sharpe, who won the pool shoot . The next members’ shoot is at Coniston Shooting Ground on Sunday, January 25.

Ingleton Langcliffe Helen Jarvis, 01729 825303 New Year concert: Twelfth Night was celebrated rather early in Langcliffe when, on Saturday, the talented group, Miscellany, entertained at a Twelfth Night concert in the village institute. Although the celebration was an opportunity for villagers and friends to get together, it raised £315 towards the institute’s running costs.

Naturalists: Craven Naturalists and Scientific Association finished 2014 with an interesting lecture entitled Trekking to Petra. This was given by archaeologist Gillian Hovell. A week later a members’ evening included a “tree quiz” and a presentation showing Addingham during Britain in Bloom, Thorp Perrow in autumn and the Dutch bulb fields at Keukenhof. A recorders’ evening will be held on Monday when reports are due to be given on meteorology, archaeology, botany and ornithology. Beetle drive: Cracoe Primary School’s recent beetle drive raised £500 towards improvements to the class one back play area.

Coffee thanks: Barbara Lambert thanks everyone who supported the coffee morning at her home, Fold Farm, Kettlewell. It raised £250 for the Children’s Society. A further £263 was collected from the boxes, making a grand total of £513. Barbara is still collecting unwanted mobile phones (no chargers) which the society can recycle.

Charity coffee: The Halton Gill coffee morning for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre raised £418.50. A further £50 has been received from friends in Settle. With Gift Aid, the organisers will be able to donate around £585.

Mobile library: On Wednesday, the mobile library will call at Buckden car park from 10.30am to 12.30pm and at the national park car park in Kettlewell from 2pm to 4pm Indoor bowling: Indoor bowls will restart at Kettlewell Village Hall on Wednesday from 1.30pm.

Whist drive: The next whist drive at Buckden Institute will take place on Wednesday, January 21, starting at 7pm. Doors will be open from 6.30pm.

Women’s Institute: Kettlewell and District WI met in December for a meal at The Old Hall Inn at Threshfield. A lucky dip in Santa’s sack raised money for the WI’s overseas partnership charity - Associated Country Women of the World. The first meeting of the new year is on Tuesday when Doug McLellan will give a further talk about first aid in the home.

Public meeting: There will be a public meeting in Kettlewell Village Hall on Monday from 7pm to discuss the refurbishment of the hall toilets.

Athlefit with Jill starts on Monday at 9.30am. It is a ladies-only exercise class, involving a range of activities geared to help with co-ordination, strength and general fitness. The activities will be tailored to individual ability. The monthly friendly quiz with light supper will take place on Wednesday, January 21. from 8pm. The Meet and Eat Group will meet on the same day from 11am. Please let the organisers know if you are attending to help with catering. The Hundreds Club continues - this is a great way to help support the running of the Old School whilst trying your luck at winning a monthly cash prize.
