SCOTTISH country dancers from near and far gathered at Ingleton Community Centre to celebrate 60 years of Scottish dancing in the village.

Mrs Cook taught the first class on Wednesday, September 21, 1955, and two of the original students, Margaret Harper and Robert Rushton, cut a cake iced with the flag of Scotland, the Saltire (the word is based on the Latin "saltare" meaning to dance).

Robert organised the event and dancers from the early days joined newer enthusiasts for a programme of 18 new and old Scottish dances.

The interval supper gave friends time to catch up and comment on the many photos of celebrations and displays.

Robert spoke about the early days of Scottish dancing in Ingleton and the surrounding area and good wishes were received from former dancers who were too infirm to attend.

Classes are still held at Ingleton on a Wednesday evening.
