Parish Council: North Yorkshire County Council have also been contacted about the damaged and missing guardrails to the bridge over the beck serving the footpath from the Cavendish Arms to Skipton Rock Woods, following concern by a resident. In the light of an initial reply this does not appear to be a priority issue to the authority, which is the responsible body for public footpaths, but the matter will be pursued with the intent of restoring this integral safety element of the bridge. Local residents may have noticed some recent felling of trees in the Nature Reserve. This has become necessary to reduce the risk and speed of spread of ‘ash die-back’, which is threatening to destroy a significant feature of our natural landscape. Dog waste continues to be the subject of complaints. The reservoir area is an increasingly used area and some apparently voluntary attempts have been made to collect waste at additional points. Yorkshire Water has been contacted in addition to Craven District Council with a view to a joint venture to achieve improvements. Some local improvements seem to have been achieved following the provision and installation of a waste bin adjacent to the Rock Woods footpath, although the mentality of people who allow their pet to foul the ground within yards of an appropriate receptacle and not ‘clear up’ must be questioned - please ‘Bag it and Bin it’.

They want to ensure that in the future there is an economic and efficient system in place. The committee is obtaining prices to investigate funding and possible grants. The help of John Bowers with this project has been invaluable.
