Affordable homes approved
Affordable housing planned for Airedale Avenue, Skipton, should go to Craven people, councillors said.
The site of the five, terraced, family homes was given to housing association Yorkshire Housing by Craven District Council.
At this week's planning committee meeting, when the scheme was approved, councillors tried to make sure the homes would be for Skipton people.
But they were told that although there would be strict criteria, it would be impossible to ensure they went to locals.
Coun Ken Hart said: "If we are releasing land, the priority should be given to Craven people with Skipton people first."
Marcus Fisher, of Yorkshire Housing, said the homes would be available to rent, with a right to buy. Any money raised from their sale would go towards building more affordable' homes.

Amazing as its the council that has set out how houses are allocated through the housing register, allowing 30 points to be added for special circumstances which aren't specified, Councillors are now complaining they can't guarantee local homes for locals. If they are so bothered why put forward an allocations policy that now is not transparent and could be open to abuse?
