Orchestra seeks brass players
Settle Orchestra has launched an an appeal for brass players.
The group has been going from strength to strength over recent years and its new conductor, Darren Everhart, is keen to lead the players into new challenges.
However, the last regular brass player, trumpeter Eric Booth, retired in 2007.
Orchestra chairman Wendy Holt said: "We would love to be able to do some of the larger symphonic works by Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and others. Both audiences and players enjoy such works, but it is hard for the orchestra to do their best if they do not hear the brass parts during rehearsals."
Now the committee has launched a recruitment drive for new players in the brass section. It is looking for players of any age, with the only requirement being a standard of grade six or above. The orchestra meets on Friday nights at Settle College.
"We are a friendly orchestra, with members of ages ranging from 14 to 80. We can usually arrange transport for members who do not drive," said secretary Sarah Glossop.
The orchestra performs three programmes per year, with two performances each time usually in Settle and Skipton. Any interested players should contact Sarah on 01729 825806 or email info@settle-orchestra.org.uk
