Council gives views on planning blueprint
Steeton-with-Eastburn Parish Council has given its views on how much housing development should take place in the villages over the next two decades.
The parish council was asked to pick one of four options after the Government specified Bradford would have to build 50,000 new homes.
Parish councillors chose to go for option three of the Local Development Framework, which is that Steeton-with-Eastburn and 17 other small towns like Addingham and Silsden would only gain 5,000 extra houses between them.
However, they felt that option two suited the area more for employment, because it concentrated jobs in existing employment zones in places like the Airedale corridor.
A Steeton-with-Eastburn Parish Council spokesman said: "The council accepts that there needs to be some housing development to trigger investment in infrastructure and better services for the community."
The options were part of an early consultation process held by Bradford Council between all town and parish councils and the options are likely to change and develop as a result of the responses received.
Craven ward district councillor Adrian Naylor said: "Those options make good sense for Steeton and Eastburn so I would agree with that. The employment growth opportunity in that area is Belton Road in Silsden where there are a number of industrial buildings.
"This is an early consultation and to be honest, I can see there being an option five, six, seven and so on to choose from after this. This is a long way off being set in stone."
