School welcomes special guest

Kildwick jazz sensation Clare Teal took a step back in time when she dropped in at her old primary school.

The singer visited Kildwick Primary School, where children quizzed her about her career and her time as a pupil there.

Miss Teal, 34, said: "It's really weird, everything seems about half the size it was. It's changed an awful lot."

The BBC filmed the visit for Look North. Headteacher Alan Robertshaw said: "Lots of people in the village remember her. There's plenty about her in the school logbooks."

Clare said she had enjoyed an idyllic childhood in Kildwick, calling it a beautiful place.

"When it was icy the playground became like a skating rink and the whole school would slide across it. We used to skateboard there in the summer as well," she said.

"Whenever I play in Yorkshire I do get a sense of coming home. It's my favourite place to play without a doubt."

Clare released her eighth album, Get Happy, in February and will spend the rest of the year touring, including a performance at the Grassington Festival in June.
