A cancer sufferer has presented the oncology department at Airedale General Hospital, Steeton, with a cheque for £16,000.

Marilyn Pollard, of Giggleswick, who has been fighting ovarian cancer for two years, handed over the money after a major fundraising initiative set up by her daughter and close friends.

Kirstyn Pollard set up The Hope Trust with Louise French, Lucy Meredith, Eleanor Kernighan and Eleanor Richardson two years ago to help raise awareness and support treatment of ovarian cancer in the UK.

Airedale General Hospital is one of the trust's two main beneficiaries.

Oncologist Dr Michael Crawford said: "We are so very grateful to The Hope Trust for its support of the Oncology Research Trust Fund. We treat many patients with cancer and where possible we offer to include them in clinical trials or ask them if they wish to help in research on genetics of cancer. Funds donated by The Hope Trust help us to employ more people to carry out this vital research."

During 2007, The Hope Trust raised £160,000.
