'Executive' homes win approval

Plans to build four executive homes in the grounds of a large house off The Bailey, Skipton, have been narrowly approved.

At Craven District Council's Planning Committee meeting on Tuesday, some councillors argued that the five and four bedroom homes were an over-development of the site.

But, because the development at The Paddock already had outline planning permission, the scheme was given the go-ahead.

Coun Stephen Butcher said it would have been useful if the committee had known what size homes were being proposed at the outline planning stage.

"We do need executive homes, but do we need five bedroom ones?" he asked.

However, Coun Ken Hart said: "We talk a lot about affordable housing and we tend to forget about executive housing. There is a desperate need for this type of housing."
