Skipton's mayor returned from Germany with a special ceremonial chalice.
Coun Carole Manley was visiting Skipton's twin town, Simbach am Inn, to mark the retirement of its Burgermeister Richard Findl.
Herr Findl has been the town's civic head for 24 years - just two years after the towns were twinned. During a civic visit to Skipton last year, he was made an honorary citizen of the town.
At the recent visit, Coun Manley, who was accompanied by her consort, Coun John Manley, was presented with a replica of an historic eighth century chalice decorated in gold and silver.
Burgermeister Findl said: "I very much hope that Skipton Town Council will allow the chalice to be used by the churches in the town on special occasions and I hope that the cultural and educational benefits of the twinning of our two towns will continue for many years to come."
Coun Manley said it had been an honour to attend the celebration on behalf of the people of Skipton.

"There is no doubt that Burgermeister Findl has been instrumental in ensuring the success of the twinning," she said.
"In particular, the many exchanges between the schools of both towns have enabled young people to appreciate the diversity of cultures."
