Skipton people have been urged to suggest improvements to the town.
The Chamber of Trade is putting together a Business Improvement District (BID) to raise £500,000 over the next five years.
It is consulting 562 businesses over the BID, which will mean all businesses having a levy - probably about one per cent - added to their business rates. If the scheme wins the support of the majority of businesses at a vote next February, it will need projects on which to focus.

At Wednesday's Skipton Area Forum at the town hall, Chris Aldred, for the Chamber of Trade, urged people to suggest possible improvement schemes.
He said the amount of money raised would not be enormous, but it would be useful to carry out some projects.
But he warned that, as the money would be allocated by a chosen board of business people, it would inevitably go on schemes likely to boost business.
"They are not going to want to invest in new sports facilities, they will want it to benefit the businesses," he said.
"One of the things that has been coming back is improvements to car parking, maybe a park-and-ride scheme, or a pay-on-exit scheme at car parks."
Businesses are being consulted about the BID and a vote is due to take place on February 2. For more information about the BID go to skiptonbid.co.uk.
