Cinema screens film classic

Classic film buffs are in for a treat as Skipton's Plaza Cinema screens Casablanca.

The all-time classic, starring real life lovers Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, contains some of the most memorable lines in cinema history.

Set in unoccupied Africa during the early days of World War Two, Bogart plays an American expatriate who meets former lover, Bergman.

The film, which also stars Claude Rains and Peter Lorre and features Dooley Wilson singing As Time Goes By, won three Oscars.

Charles Morris, the cinema's proprietor, said: "It is refreshing to do something a bit different like this, and it is also very gratifying to be able to respond to the wishes of our customers, some of whom have asked for some of the older movies now and again."

He said that showing older films might become a permanent fixture.

"If we can keep up the momentum, there is no reason why this shouldn't become a regular feature. Casablanca is a film which can be enjoyed by all ages."

Casablanca is being shown at the Plaza on Wednesday at 2.45pm and again at 8.20pm.
