Teenager celebrates stock car success

A Skipton teenager has won a national stock car racing event.

Andrew-John Thompson, 15, won four of six races at the Skegness Speed weekend, including the UK Challenge Trophy.

Now, the Settle College pupil, who has been racing stock cars since he was 11, is among the top six drivers in the UK.

Mum Lynne Thompson said they were very proud of him: "He puts a lot of effort into it; every night after school he's out there working on the car with his dad."

Andrew-John races in the Brisca National Minstox junior formula for girls and boys from 11 to 16 years old. Dad Andrew has a car body shop in Carleton.
