Majestic cinema revival planned

People in Barnoldswick are getting the chance to step back to the golden age of cinema.

Hope, a group that aims to get the town's churches working together and with the wider community, is holding a 1950s film night in the old Majestic Cinema.

The evening will take the format of a trip to the cinema in the 1950s.

Meet the Invisible Man - the B film - will be shown first.

There will then be a break while the news is shown and ice cream served before the main film, Brothers in Law, begins.

Barry Matthews, a member of the Hope steering group, is searching for archive material relating to the cinema to try to link the evening with the history of the town.

Mr Matthews said: "There are probably many people in Barnoldswick who used the Majestic when it was a cinema and we're looking for any material from them."

The film night is due to be held on Thursday May 8 at 7.30pm in the Majestic building, and entrance is free.
