Warning over night-time burglaries

Police are warning residents to be vigilant after three night-time burglaries in Skipton over the past fortnight.

Thieves raided houses on Belgrave Street overnight on June 25 and 26 and on Nelson Street overnight on Wednesday last week. The third burglary happened at a house on Byron Street between 1am and 8am on Saturday.

Inspector Craig Linton, head of Skipton’s Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I am urging people to be on their guard and make sure their windows and doors are secure.

“While this type of crime is unusual in Skipton, I’m keen to get this information out to our local residents in an effort to raise awareness and make it harder for the burglars to strike again.

“The property stolen includes handbags, cash, cameras and mobile phones – items that are left downstairs and that the burglars can snatch and be away with in minutes.

“I believe the offenders are locals as a handbag stolen from Belgrave Street was found in Aireville Park and a handbag from Nelson Street was found nearby in Middletown.

“I’m asking for the public’s help to be vigilant on behalf of the police and report to us anyone seen acting suspiciously straight away.

“I know some residents have their own CCTV covering sheds and back yards and I would ask them to check it and tell us if they capture anyone on it entering their property.

“I’m sure working together we can catch these burglars.”

Anyone with information about the burglars or who has been offered the cameras or mobile phones, is asked to contact Skipton police on 0845 6060 247 or email the Safer Neighbourhood Team on sntcraven@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk

Alternatively, call the confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
