Trains on the Airedale line could get longer as part of a plan to provide extra seats, more services and better journeys for rail users across the district, say operators.
Unveiled by Network Rail, the Yorkshire Route Utilisation Strategy is designed to cater for growing demand on lines such as the Airedale, Wharfedale and Caldervale.
On the Airedale line – which runs between Skipton, Bradford and Leeds – the strategy recommends electric services operate in six-car formation rather than the current four-car set-up.
The plan is a change from the previously-preferred option which had favoured operating Skipton-Leeds “semi-fast” trains together with Keighley-Leeds “stopping” services.
