Seven young chefs spent Bonfire Night competing for a place in the next round of the Rotary Young Chef competition.
Each had to devise a three-course meal for two on a budget of £14 and deliver the dishes to the table in two hours. The Craven heat of the Rotary Young Chef competition – staged at Craven College – was won by Amy Gray, from Skipton Girls’ High School.
Runner-up was Charlotte Cowan, from Skipton Girls, with Vikki Brown from Aireville School and Jake Round from Ilkley Grammar equal third.
Bruce Elsworth, chef director of the Angel Inn at Hetton and the competition’s lead judge, paid tribute to the contestants’ menus and professionalism. “We’ve seen some great menu choices focusing on healthy eating. The high standard of culinary skill, which has become the hallmark of the Young Chef challenge, made it a difficult decision for the judges again this year,” he said.
Bob Hargreaves, president of Skipton Craven Rotary Club, said: “We congratulate everyone for their enthusiasm, creativity and skill.” Other judges were Atholl Robertson, general manager at Booths supermarket, and Craven Herald editor Peter Greenwood.
