Craven District Council is warning local people to be on their guard against telephone fraudsters.
A Cross Hills resident was contacted by someone, purporting to be from the council, who said that his home had been put in a different council tax band and he was, therefore, entitled to a rebate.
The caller then asked for the resident’s bank details, but he refused to divulge them.
“This is a scam. We would never ask for such details over the phone,” said a council spokesman.
