A Skipton medical practice has named its new extension after a family of well-known doctors.
The Fisher Medical Centre, itself named after the Fisher family of doctors, has now honoured the Goodall family of general practitioners. Three generations of Goodall GPs have served the people of Craven from surgeries at Otley Street, Skipton, in Gargrave and most recently at the Fisher Medical Centre in Millfields.
And there to formally open the two new Goodall consulting rooms were Dr Jeremy Goodall, who retired from the practice last year, and his wife, Jan. Practice business manager Linden Veitch said the extension featured two new consulting rooms, a new reception area and waiting area.
It will be used to provide clinics for patients with long-term diseases, such as diabetes and lung disease, and will also be used for evening and weekend appointments.
She said that it would also allow the practice to take on an additional trainee GP and so offer more appointments.
“In keeping with naming the Fisher Medical Centre after the Fisher family of doctors who founded and served here over several generations, we are now honouring the Goodall family of general practitioners who served the people of Skipton from Otley Street surgery, Gargrave and, more recently, here at Millfields by naming the rooms after them,” said Mrs Veitch.
Several retired doctors from the practice also attended the opening ceremony along with several members of the Goodall family.
Also attending were John Price and Liz Wherity, chairman and secretary of the newly formed Patient Participation Group.
