A South Craven village has adopted an innovative approach to helping out visitors to its open gardens event.

Lothersdale will hold an open gardens event from 11am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Twenty-four residents will open up their gardens, but a member of the organising committee, Bob Wood, said that normally it could be a long time for some people to walk to gardens located on the edge of the village.

“We’ve organised a pick-up and drop-off service, which will involve three or four drivers coming by every 15 minutes to transport visitors to another garden,” he said. “Although the bulk of the gardens are in the actual village, there are quite a few on the edge of the village.”

People can pick up a programme in the village hall, where cream teas and lunches will also be served.
