Keighley Amateur Swimming Club members will swim the distance of the Tour de France’s Grand Depart.

Between them, the club’s child members plan to swim 14,280 lengths to represent the Yorkshire leg of the famous cycling race.

The swimmers are being sponsored, with proceeds going towards much-needed club funds.

Club spokesman John Marshall said the club, based at Keighley swimming pool, had seen many changes over its 121-year history.

But he said: “The club still remains dedicated to the teaching of swimming to the children of Keighley.

“The club needs the support of all its members in the completion of this challenge.”

Keighley Amateur Swimming Club was formed in 1893 and is run entirely by volunteers.

Members swim on Monday and Friday evenings at Keighley pool.
