Young cycling fans at Pool-in-Wharfedale have enjoyed a visit from their MP.

Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) dropped in on Pool Primary School last Thursday to celebrate the 100-day countdown until the Tour de France.

Mr Mulholland talked to a group of cyclists from years five and six about their love of the sport and how excited they were getting about the Grand Depart, which passes through Pool on Saturday, July 5.

He said: “The pupils from Pool and I are very excited to see the Tour de France pass through Arthington, Pool and Otley. The pupils are obviously keen cyclists and I hope that the Tour inspires more people to get out on their bikes and explore our lovely area.”

Acting headteacher Sally Fox added: “The children are really excited that the Tour de France will be zooming past in 100 days’ time. Pupils have been busy with Pool WI knitting yellow bunting which will be used to decorate the school, as it is on the route.

“Sports are really valued at Pool Primary and hopefully the Tour will inspire our pupils to cycle more.”
