WE turn the clock back more than 60 years with this week's nostalgia picture.

It shows a group of burlers and menders, who were based in North Craven but who worked for the owners of Salts Mill, Saltaire.

The picture was taken at Blackpool Station in 1953 when, to celebrate the centenary of the opening of the mill by Sir Titus Salt, the bosses paid for workers to spend the day in the seaside resort.

It has been loaned by one of the workers, Mary Owens, formerly Stead, who now lives in Nelson.

Among the others pictures are Amy Procter, Florence Kayley, Brenda Loveridge, Doris Mills, Irene and Margaret Gibson, Josie and Sheila Ellershaw, Doreen Hardaker, Shirley Salt, Maureen Constantine and Marlene Pawson.

Do you have any pictures we can feature in this column as our supplies are dwindling? They can be emailed - with some details - to news@cravenherald.co.uk or sent by post to Lindsey Moore, Deputy Editor, Craven Herald, 38 High Street, Skipton, BD23 1JU.
