Sir – The editors of this esteemed paper’s sports section are really to be applauded.

Rarely in the annals of sports journalism has such dedication to researching a scoop prior to publication been witnessed.

A couple of years ago they spelt my name as Stebbington in a banner headline, for which I have them to thank for the nickname Stebbo that will no doubt live with me for the rest of my life.

But now they have surpassed themselves.

In last week’s edition my name (spelt correctly at least) appeared underneath the photograph of an action shot taken from Grassington United Reserves recent win over Sutton.

Not only did I not play in this game, the Grassington player shown in the photo is an Egyptian national called Tarek Issa who, even from a distance and with the greatest will in the world, looks nothing like me.

Hats off once again sports section, the Pulitzer prize is surely in the post!

We regret the error, but the names for the pictures were given to the photographer by club members.
