Oxenhope made it through to the fourth round of the West Riding County FA Trophy after this tie went ahead at the sixth attempt.

Rec thought their hopes were over the previous week after the sides had agreed to settle the match with a coin toss after the fifth postponement due to bad weather, Silsden calling correctly. But the county FA ruled that method invalid and ordered the match to be played, Oxenhope coming out on top when it finally went ahead Whitestar almost took the lead after 15 minutes when Danny Cox found himself one-on-one with keeper Sam Lee but the custodian came out and made a brave save on the edge of the box.

Five minutes later Craig Morris slotted home for the visitors but Whitestar soon levelled when they caught the Oxenhope defence square.

Rec regained the lead before the break when a defender put the ball past his own keeper following a long kick from Lee.

The visitors hit the woodwork twice before extending their lead on the hour. Dale Hawker broke down the left before being fouled in the box and Morris dispatched the penalty.

On 75 minutes Will Lee won the ball in midfield, turned and released Michael Donohoe out on the left. He went past his marker and, on the edge of the box, crossed to Morris at the far post for him to complete his hat-trick.

In the final quarter Oxenhope took control and missed several clear-cut chances to increase their lead.

First-class performances came from Oxenhope man of the match Will Lee and Dayne Ward, who kept control of Whitestar’s main threats in Cox and Gav Shearer.

Oxenhope travel to Campion reserves in the next round on Saturday (1pm).
