A late goal from top scorer Mark Threlfall earned Town victory in Tuesday’s night’s North West Counties Premier Division derby clash.

The result moves them up to sixth place and was achieved with almost a full strength side.

James Nettleton, Martin Broderick, Thomas Bradley, Billy Carrington and And- rew Lee were all back in the starting line up after missing the League Cup defeat by Formby.

Threlfall forced a good save from Chris Thompson early in the game but the first half was largely uneventful.

Ten minutes into the second half play was halted for nearly half an hour as Michael Morrison was injured in a tackle and had to be removed from the pitch by ambulance.

Danny Morton shot over the bar when well placed and Chris Ridehalgh – who had replaced Broderick five minutes earlier – had a powerful 80th minute header cleared off he line by Benjamin Hoskin.

Town started to apply pressure on the Colne defence, and with six minutes left Threlfall and Ridehalgh had shots cleared from almost on the goalline.

Morton had a shot well saved by Thompson and from the resulting corner Town scored.

It was only half cleared to the right-hand side of the Colne penalty area, Threlfall picking the ball up around the corner of the penalty area and curling a magnificent shot into the far top corner of Thompson’s net.

Town have two home games this week against Glossop on Saturday and local rivals Silsden on Tuesday.
