Barnoldswick Town 1 Wigan Robin Park 1
Leading scorer Mark Threlfall netted his 22nd goal of the season in the nick of time to salvage a Premier Division points at the Silentnight Beds Stadium on Saturday.
Robin Park looked set to go home with all three points when Threlfall headed home in the final minute.
There was a sigh of relief from the home supporters when the goal went in because moments earlier goalkeeper Jason Foulds had made a fine save from a powerful shot by Andy Lee.
It appeared as if Town’s last chance of cancelling out Joseph Hull’s 67th minute goal had gone, but Threlfall popped up to extend Town’s unbeaten run to seven matches.
Hull netted with a glancing header which flew past the stranded Billy Carrington in the Town goal.
Town had started the game well with midfieldman Chris Ridehalgh hitting a Wigan upright two minutes into the game. They dominated the first ten minutes with Liam Blades providing some good balls into the Wigan area.
The action flowed from end to end but neither side could make the breakthrough. Carrington was forced to make a full-stretch save from a James Edgar free kick.
Wigan were collecting the loose ball in midfield, pushing forward and putting Town under pressure. A Wigan corner on the half-hour mark saw a great ball in and once again forced Carrington to make a vital save Town found it difficult to make ground in the second half despite having a good share of possession.
Ash Alderson replaced Ridehalgh and had only been on the field four minutes when Wigan went ahead.
Town responded by sending on Aaron Hollindrake for Danny Morton and he soon made an impact with his strength and determination.
The home side’s efforts finally saving a point.
