Wharfedale look to repel Raiders

Head coach Jon Feeley believes Wharfedale are ready for the new campaign ahead of Saturday’s opening National League One match at home to Worthing Raiders.
The Greens enjoyed a weekend off after their 35-30 defeat to local rivals Otley.
Feeley admitted that was just what his players needed to get bodies back and, despite not winning either of their friendlies, his side are prepared for the campaign ahead.
He said: “We definitely needed the week off because it’s given us a chance to get some of our experienced players back who were nursing bumps.
“I’m really excited because it’s a great time all over the club. We’ve got a young and exciting group of players who’ve worked hard.
“This pre-season was an important time for the players to adapt to me as their new coach and to adapt to each other and learn about what we’re going to be doing but it doesn’t stop here.
“Training is going to get a lot more intense for our boys because they’ve a lot of games to play and their fitness needs to be up to a high level throughout.”
Worthing were promoted last season after finishing runners-up in the National Two South and beating Stourbridge in a play-off and Feeley is expecting a tough test first up.
“I’ve seen them before and they are a really tough team to beat and a physical side so we’re expecting a really difficult game,” Feeley said.
Wharefedale will be without star flanker Dan Solomi, but Feeley added: “Dan’s been our top try-scorer for the last two seasons and is the best seven in the league but what we’ve got is good local Wharfedale lads who are able to cover flanker and this is an opportunity to make their mark.”
