Upper Wharefedale clinch promotion
11:56am Thursday 12th September 2013 in Sport
Upper Wharfedale have clinched promotion to Division Two at the first attempt.
They will be going up along with champions Skipton after defeating Woodhouse by six wickets.
Their return to Division Two was confirmed when third-placed Horsforth suffered a 15-run defeat against Illingworth.
Upper Wharfedale, who face bottom team Silsden in their final game on Saturday, set up their victory by bowling out Woodhouse for 150.
Mohammad Raffique (32) was the only batsman to make an impression as Josh Gill (4-66), Callum Lockett (2-30) and Dave Eggleton (2-14) bowled well.
Australian Bobby Wilson (71no) and skipper Jamie Freebury (51no) saw their side to their victory target with an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 88.
Table-toppers Skipton notched up their 14th win of the season as they got the better of Menston.
The ever-reliable Gary Owens (5-45) and Andrew Fergie (3-15) helped bowl out Menston for 111.
The modest target didn’t pose them too many problems as Adnan Latif (36) and Steve Carling (35no) made important contributions.
The consistent Kiwi batsman Ricky Palacio (61) starred in Addingham’s 169 but Steve Phillips reponded with an unbeaten 108 to clinch victory for Hall Park by nine wickets.
Inconsistent Steeton suffered a six-wicket defeat in their Division One clash with Ben Rhydding.
Opener Andrew Foulds top scored with 33 while last man James Emmott (23) was the next highest scorer in a total of 132.
Ben Rhydding eased to victory with Robbie Oldham (52no) and Charlie Swallow (30) leading the way.
Silsden’s Division Three clash with Alwoodley fell foul of the weather and was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
