Patience is a virtue as Barnoldswick Town win again
Bacup & Rossendale Borough 0, Barnoldswick Town 2
Barnoldswick were looking to build on the North West Counties League Premier Division draw against Norton United and the win at Colne but a wet and windy night promised a difficult night for the players on both sides.
The first chance came for Town after eight minutes. A free-kick was awarded just outside the Bacup penalty area, and Mark Threlfall’s shot hit the Bacup wall and was deflected towards Ashlea Gotham’s left-hand post, the keeper diving to tip the ball for a corner.
Conner Smith later released Threlfall into the Bacup penalty area but Gotham saving low down at his near post.
Bacup centre half Mike Harling’s downward header from a corner had Jake Chadwick diving to tip the ball round for another corner.
The hosts had a good chance after 33 minutes, Chadwick slicing a clearance straight to Simon Thompson 30 yards out, but his attempt on goal was skewed wide when if it had been on target he would surely have scored.
The second half, though not a frenetic as the first, had no clear-cut chances until the 62nd minute, Aaron Hollindrake putting Sam Howell through and he blasted his shot past Gotham at the near post as the keeper tried to narrow the angle.
Bacup rallied and won a free-kick 30 yards out. Luke Morgan took it, the ball bouncing off the Town wall and Chadwick having to dive to tip the ball round for a corner.
Town went two up after 78 minutes. Gareth Wager was booked for a foul on Howell just outside the Bacup area, and Town captain Bill Williams smashed the resulting free-kick past Gotham.
