Skipton remain in the relegation zone but their much-changed side showed enough character in defeat to suggest they can pull clear of trouble.

Goole are clear leaders of Yorkshire Division Three and showed themselves to be a well-organised team and a slick unit.

However, Skipton started brightly and caused early problems with Luke Stock- ton, Charlie Brown Darren Howson and Jeremy Har- greaves all being stopped short of the line by the resolute defence that has served Goole so well this season.

Skipton were unlucky not to open the scoring when a penalty kick by Hargreaves rebounded back into play off an upright.

Unfortunately a lapse of concentration and some weak tackling allowed Goole to launch a counter attack which resulted in a well- taken converted try.

Skipton came right back at Goole and Hargreaves kicked a magnificent penalty from just inside the Goole half.

For the next 20 minutes there was no further scoring with experienced Brian Broxham and George Smith- son working hard.

An injury to Jordon Emmison meant a rare appearance for Rob Morgan in the front row where he was joined by debutant Troy Johnson when Ian Herron to sustained a leg problem.

Neither of the replacements took a backward step for the remainder of the game.

Unfortunately, the Reds were punished for a number of missed tackles as the visitors gradually built their score.
