Rothwell Town 0 Settle United 4

Settle scored four times in the second half as they secured their place in the semi-finals of the West Riding County Trophy.

They will now face Morley at the County FA’s Woodlesford headquarters on a date to be confirmed.

The result means that Settle have now scored 28 goals in their last five games without conceding any.

Playing into a very strong wind in the first half, Settle struggled to get any momentum going and created only one clear chance that John Beckwith fired over after out sprinting the home team’s defence.

Settle keeper Sam Arrowsmith kept the home attack at bay with a couple of sharp saves.

With the first half being scoreless Settle knew that they had to take advantage of playing with the wind if they stood any chance of progressing.

They took the lead with a fantastic strike ten minutes into the second half.

Young defender Elliot Firth won the ball way inside his own half and set off on a run which he finished off with a searing 25-yard shot into the net.

This calmed the Settle nerves and they started to take control.

A Danny Bathers corner brought Settle’s second goal when his cross was headed back across goal by David Worthington and the prolific Beckwith headed home.

Worthington and Bathers combined again for the third goal when Worth- ington prodded home at the second attempt from a Bathers cross.

The final goal came from player manager Shaun Airey after he outpaced the Rothwell defence and firing into the far corner.
