Two Craven crews performed well in the testing Riponian Rally.

The event, part of the Association of Northern Car Clubs, Rally Champion-ship, started at Thirsk Cattle Market and included 38 stage miles in the forests above Sutton Bank, Duncombe Park.

Andy Forrest from Glusburn and his co-driver Kevin Bardon from Kirby-moorside experienced engine problems with their Vauxhall Nova 1400.

An air filter issues meant the car would not go above 5,000 revs but once the problem was disagnosed they ran strongly to claim second in class and 34th place overall.

Tom Preston from Colne and his Crosshills partner Jamie Forrest had a big spin on Special Stage Five.

They couldn’t get his Mitsubushi Evo 6 into reverse losing two minutes but had a steady run in the afternoon to claim 11th overall and third in class.

All the crews complained that the stages were extremely slippy and far more tricky than driving on the usual snow and ice that this rally usually experiences.

The drivers will all be hoping for better grip when they compete in the next round of the championships which is the testing Tour Of Hamsterley in April which is staged in County Durham.
