Skipton Golf Club’s Ladies team has won through to the third round of the 2014 Ladies Mail on Sunday knockout competition.

After accounting for Keighley Ladies in the first round, Skipton travelled to Clitheroe on Sunday and came away with a hard-fought, 3-2 victory.

The team – sisters Lucy and Milly Eaton, Amanda Kilner, Nicola Gamble and Marie Burnham - arrived at Clitheroe Golf Club raring to go, only to discover they were all giving shots to their opponents.

Skipton defied the wind and the rain and soon had two games in the bag, courtesy of the Eaton girls, who beat their opponents 4 & 3 and 6 & 5.

Unfortunately, Kilner and Burnham both lost their matches, but things were looking decidedly rosy in the decider when Nicola Gamble went five up at the turn.

However, her opponent fought back gamely and the match went to the 18th, with Nicola just prevailing in the tightest of finishes.

Skipton’s lady captain Amanda Kilner enthused: “I’m so proud of the team. Giving shots isn’t easy at the best of times, but to give shots when you’re playing away is even harder.”
