Silsden slump against sharp finishing

Craven Herald: Zack Dale of Silsden squeezes a shot past the Runcorn keeper but to no avail Zack Dale of Silsden squeezes a shot past the Runcorn keeper but to no avail

Silsden 0, Runcorn Town 4

Struggling Silsden reached the interval just a goal down against high-flying Runcorn Town but a rush of second-half strikes saw them heavily beaten.

It was a decent performance from the home side, and they certainly did not deserve to go down by that scoreline, but the harsh facts will state that they suffered a four-goal defeat at the Angel Telecom Stadium.

Mark Keddie broke the deadlock following a 27th-minute corner. The flag-kick was punched out by Cobbydalers keeper Ed Hall but headed back past him by the Runcorn player.

The visitors were clinical again just three minutes into the second half when Andy Potter curled a shot past Hall.

When a shot came back off the post, James McShane buried the rebound to make it 3-0 – and just three minutes later the same player tucked in the final goal of the game.

Silsden official Jim Rosser said: “In the last ten minutes we hit the woodwork three times and went close with other attempts but their keeper made two great saves.

“They didn’t dominate the game but they finished really well. We played our part in the game but it just wasn’t our day.”
