Barnoldswick Town 1 Congleton Town 1

A goal deep into injury time from Matt Cavanagh rescued a Premier Division point for Barnoldswick Town at the Silentnight Beds Stadium on Saturday.

He was on hand to prod the ball home from close range after Carl Ellerton had appeared to squander the best chance of the game.

He found himself in acres of space but failed to take advantage as his weak shot lacked accuracy, but fortunaely for Town the ball fell to Cavanagh who made no mistake.

Town could consider themselves a little fortunate to be in a position to save the game because Congleton had the lion’s share of the play and squandered a great chance to seal victory ten minutes from time.

Walker had only keeper Lyle Davy to beat but failed to capitalise on the golden opportunity.

Teenager Davy was one of the star performers for Town.

He made a series of splendid saves to keep the visitors at bay and has proved to be one of the bright spots in a difficult and disappointing campaign for Town.

He had little chance with the early Congleton goal which was netted by Simon Thompson when the Town defence failed to clear.

The goal came minutes after Mark Threlfall had gone close on two occasions.

After a run of home fixtures, Town have two away fixtures over the Easter weekend.

They visit Alsager Town on Saturday before visiting close rivals Silsden on Monday.
