Having just underlined their domination of the Mastab’s Craven League this season by winning three major trophies, Skipton LMS have set their sights on further silverware.

A fifth-successive Premier Division title and the Craven FA Cup are top priority for manager Bill Freaks who would also like his team to enjoy a successful run in the West Riding County Challenge Cup.

The league champions rounded off their season in style last week by defeating Cowling 4-2 on Tuesday night to lift the Northern Plant Hire Trophy before beating Cross Hills 4-1 in Thursday night’s Premier League Cup final.

Freaks said: “The lads have done extremely well to win three trophies this season.

“Playing two cup finals within 48 hours of each other was a test but they came through it well.”

Freaks has been delighted with the emergence of young midfield player Aaron Vaughan this year.

“He has made good progress and I hope we can bring more players through from our junior ranks in the coming seasons,” said Freaks.

Two of the key figures in the LMS success story have been strikers Luke Howsen and Ian Craven.

“They are the best strikers in the league,” added Freaks. It is hard to argue with that assertion as Howsen has scored 25 goals this season and skipper Craven 23.

LMS won the Premier Division title by an eight-point margin from Trawden Celtic, but Freaks thought the race would be a lot tighter.

He said: “Trawden and Cononley were up with us when the league table was adjusted after Carleton withdrew.

“We had a 19-0 victory chalked off, but despite things being close for a few weeks, we finished the season strongly and pulled clear.”

Looking ahead to next season, Freaks expects Trawden to challenge again. “They are a strong side and I would expect Rolls and Cononley to be looking to be in the mix,” he said.

“We have a good squad and I am confident that we have what it takes to win the title again.”
