Andrew Foulds and Neil Spragg were Steeton’s key contributors with bat and ball respectively as Ilkley were beaten by 29 runs in Aire-Wharfe League Division One on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Summerhill Lane hosts made 216-9 before restricting their visitors to 187 all out to remain third place in the table.

Opener Foulds played the anchor role with 61 from 112 balls, sharing an excellent second-wicket partnership with John Akrigg (34).

There were also useful cameos from South Afri-can Jonny Stander (26), Andrew Luxton (22) and Jon Best (18) as Steeton posted a challenging total.

The pick of the bowlers was skipper Spragg, who took 5-37 from 12.4 overs. Eight catches were made, with wicket-keeper Foulds taking four of them.

Steeton won 19 points to go 16 clear of Ilkley, who dropped to sixth spot.

In Division Two, Thackley’s Jack Young (4-25) and Andrew Stothart (3-0) skittled Harden for 64 before Luke Holroyd hit an un-beaten 30 off 35 balls to clinch the victory and lift Thackley off the bottom at the expense of their opponents.

Silsden were replaced by Horsforth at the top of Div-ision Three after crashing to their first league defeat of the season.

Hosts Illingworth recovered from 44-4 to pass their 169 all out total with three wickets in hand as Ben Robertshaw made 68no despite 4-32 from Iqbal Khan.

Chris Barrett (48) and Gulsheraz Ahmed (42) were Silsden’s key contributors with the bat.

Steeton II lost by 42 runs at Ilkley II in Division One of the second-team competition.

Pick of their bowlers again was opener Josh Gill, who collected 4-67 from 14 overs, assisted by two catches in the slips by Phil Barrett.

Gary Boulton also weigh-ed in with 3-51 as Ilkley II scored 206-9 in their 50 overs. Steeton’s reply was always going to be difficult without last week’s double century-maker Mick Wil-son.

Instead it was Matt Price (51) who anchored the inn-ings, while skipper Julian Higginson contributed 36 from 38 balls. However, the visitors fell short on 163.

Harden II (127-7) enjoyed better luck in Division Two as they passed Ben Rhyd-ding’s 126 all out total.

Silsden II (79) lost by eight wickets at home to Illingworth II in Division Three.

Saturday’s Aire-Wharfe League programme was rained off.
