NORTH Ribblesdale’s stalwart prop forward John Thwaite has won a special accolade.
He was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by chairman Alan Simpson at the Yorkshire Division One club’s recent annual dinner.
Thwaite is a highly-respected figure on the Yorkshire rugby scene with more than 30 years of playing experience with the Settle-based club.
Club executive committee member Gavin Davidson told the diners of Thwaites’ utter dedication to the club.
He highlighted his fine playing record and the guiding hand he has given to many young players in the club as he has helped them along the rugby road.
He also paid tribute to the way he has tackled a host of tasks for the club’s benefit.
Thwaite was presented with an inscribed silver salver and he received a standing ovation from the entire room.
Thwaite said in his own inimitable style, that this was something he never expected but that he was very proud to have received the award.
The club chairman went on to praise the work of the club’s volunteers.
He reserved special praise for Robin Towler and the rest of the ground staff team.
He said that without their conscientious efforts Ribb could have lost many matches due to unplayable pitches.
