HOME advantage could not help Thackley as they lost their FA Cup extra preliminary-round tie against Albion Sports 2-1 at Dennyfield.

Three times the average crowd filtered through the turnstiles to witness a riveting local derby, although the quality was affected by the stiff breeze.

Four former Thackley players were in the Albion line-up and were keen to knock out their old team-mates – but it was the hosts that broke the deadlock.

The Albion defence only half-cleared a ball into the area and Paddy McGurie returned it with interest.

The Dennyboys suffered a blow later in the half when they lost goalkeeper Matt Convey to injury and defender Liam Hudson had to don the gloves.

It all began to unravel from then and Albion came out to dominate the second half.

Danny Facey hit a shot on the turn to level the contest and although Albion were later denied by the woodwork, they scored their winner just four minutes from time.

A free-kick was met by a header from Matt Mathers, one of the four ex-Dennyboys, and although Hudson parried it, Facey forced the rebound over the line.

The journey along the road to Wembley was a short one for three of the other local semi-professional clubs as Eccleshill United, Liversedge and Silsden all followed Thackley out of the competition.

The Eagles were beaten 4-1 at Jarrow Roofing Boldon CA. Jon Wright gave the home side a first-half lead but Victor Balis equalised on the hour mark.

A stunning free-kick from John Campbell saw the hosts back in front before the same player netted a penalty for handball and Paul Gardiner wrapped up the scoring.

Sedge lost 2-1 at Seaham Red Star after taking an early lead through Kieran Corley. Dean Harrison levelled before half-time and Sonny Anderson hit the winner as the visitors wasted chance after chance.

Silsden had home advantage but that counted for nothing as Consett ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Luke Sullivan and Michael Mackey.
