Barnoldswick Town 3 AFC Blacpool 2

PLAYER-MANAGER Stewart Airdrie netted a dramatic last-minute winner as Barnoldswick Town registered their first North West Counties Premier League win of the season at the Silentnight Stadium on Tuesday night.

Substitute Airdrie curled home a 25-yard free kick to complete a comeback which saw Town recover from 2-0 down to take the points with three goals in the last 15 minutes after Blackpool’s James Daley had been sent off for kicking a Town player.

For Town, who lost their first four league games and went out of the FA Cup 5-0 at Tadcaster Albion on Saturday, victory in the basement battle was a welcome tonic.

Blackpool stunned Town with a 54th minute goal. Mitchell White fired in a fierce shot from the edge of the penalty area that beat Ed Hall.

Blackpool increased their lead three minutes later when the unmarked Ben Singleton scored.

The Town revival started three minutes after Daley’s dismissal. Hollindrake’s shot was charged down and substitute Liam Hoyle was on hand to ram the ball home.

Airdrie joined the action three minutes later and tested keeper Adam Caunce with a fierce shot before his side equalised with seven minutes to go.

Matthew Cavanagh pounced to score after good work by Mark Threlfall. Town were dominant and there was relief when Airdrie struck his winner l FA Cup exit – Page 79
