Hebden's Andy Hodge has arrived in Amsterdam ready to compete for Great Britain at the Rowing World Championships from Sunday through to August 31st.

GB Rowing Team Performance Director Sir David Tanner and his Chief Coaches Jurgen Grobler and Paul Thompson underlined their confidence in this year’s personnel when selecting the national squad. The group selected has so far delivered 31 medals at World Cup and European level this season, 12 of them gold.

The trio named a largely-unchanged GB Rowing Team to compete at the World Championships, with 64 rowers (including spares) in 18 crews.

Hodge will once again be in the stroke seat of the GB men’s four, racing alongside Alex Gregory, Moe Sbihi and George Nash. Hodge is a double Olympic champion in this event, winning in Beijing and at London 2012.

This combination has produced some stunning results since coming together, winning gold medals at the European Championships in Belgrade and at both World Cup regattas, in Aiguebelette and Lucerne. They also won the Stewards’ Challenge Cup at Henley Regatta. They are most certainly a crew to pay attention to in Amsterdam.

At the squad announcement in July, Hodge spoke about the effect their unbeaten run has had on the crew: “It’s definitely a bonus, but it’s nothing to rest on.

"We’ve seen lots of crews in the past have good World Cups and then fall down at the last hurdle so we know we have a lot of work to do and we know Jurgen is going to keep us on our toes over the next couple of weeks. Now it’s about getting the best out of ourselves for the Worlds”.
