Settle first team still hold third place in the Senior League after a rewarding Bank Holiday double-header at Marshfield.

Saturday saw Baxenden tumble to 107 all out facing the bowling of pro Imran Khadid , who delivered his best figures of the season at 7-38 and his eighth five-wicket haul this summer.

This stand-out performance was backed by 3-35 from Andrew Davidson and three stumpings from Robbie Davidson.

Chasing a revised total, opener John Davidson led the way with a measured 37, with Khalid dismissed for 17.

A final flurry from unbeaten duo Eddy Read (14) and Will Davidson (18) saw Settle home with five wickets to spare.

On Sunday Settle batted first against Read, hitting a challenging 188 all out.

The serious contribution came from a solid middle order, Khalid to the fore with 55 runs from 71, and crucial innings from Jack Harrison (37), skipper Read (34) and Will Davidson (35).

The visitors’ reply saw Khalid once again in the wickets (4-58) but Tom Davidson took the honours with his haul of 5-48 to deliver a win by 58 runs.

Settle seconds were held up in their race for the Division Two title in the absence of key players in their match with second-placed Euxton.

The hosts were put in by Settle and struggled to 64 all out thanks mainly to the bowling of Ethan Henare (6-22).

But the reply saw Neil Handy (16) and skipper Kieren Ashley (10) the only batsmen in double figures as the visitors could only raise 53 runs.
