Colne 4 Barnoldswick Town 2

Town gave away two penalties in the first 20 minutes as they suffered another North West Counties League Premier Division defeat on Tuesday night.

They had Martin Broderick back in the starting line-up after a three match suspension, along with Matthew Cavanagh.

There was an early scare for Town when Jason Hart broke through their defence in the fifth minute but dragged his shot wide.

Three minutes later, Daniel Boyle beat Carl Ellerton but saw his goalbound shot cleared off the line by Shaun Airey.

Disaster struck after nine minutes when goalkeeper Chris Taylor brought down Hart to concede a penalty. Hart stepped up to slot home the spot kick.

Taylor repeated the offence two minutes later and collected a yellow card. Hart beat Hart and getting a yellow card to boot. Hart slotted home his second penalty.

Just past the half hour mark Hart turned provider, firing a fierce cross along the Town six yard area for Boyle to score at the far post.

Town looked down and out but right on half-time, Joel Melia’s cross found Mark Threlfall whose shot was parried by Chris Thompson into the path of Cavanagh who scored.

Two minutes into injury time, Cavanagh headed a great ball into the path of Ellerton who shot just wide.

Town started the second half off well, Threlfall bringing a fine save from Thompson two minutes into the new half. Then a through ball over the Town defence saw a race to the ball between Taylor and Boyle, Taylor just winning the race to hack clear.

Broderick gave Town hope of snatching a point when he smashed a great shot past Thompson from around 30 yards out.

Just after the hour Colne scored again. A long ball down the middle saw Harry Thompson and Boyle in a chase for the ball, Boyle won and went on to score past Taylor to complete his hat-trick.

Colne nearly increased their lead after 75 minutes. A Hart cross saw Airey clear the ball, it hit Taylor in the Town goal who was quick to react and save.

Cavanagh had a hooked shot cleared off the line and Melia hit the bar in stoppage time as Town tried in vain to get back into the game.
